I am civil trial attorney and since 1980 have concentrated on representing employees on employment law matters.
My practice involves advising about and litigating all types of employment claims. I have tried lawsuits and argued appeals in numerous employment cases in Michigan and Federal courts and administrative agencies, including the Michigan Supreme Court, the 6th United States Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. I was the plaintiff's trial and appellate attorney in Toussaint v Blue Cross. This is a Michigan Supreme Court decision nationally recognized as establishing an employee's right to termination for good cause. I was also co-lead class counsel for In re: Unisys Retiree Medical Benefits ERISA Litigation. My clients won a partial judgment reinstating their low cost lifetime health care benefits and partial settlements of more than $40,000,000.
My undergraduate degree is in business administration from the University of Michigan. I have a law degree with honors for outstanding academic achievement from Wayne State University and served as an editor of my school’s Law Review.
I have been listed in the Labor and Employment Law section of Woodward/White's The Best Lawyers In America and rated AV Preeminent. I was Plaintiff Co-Chair of the American Bar Association Employee Rights Trial Practice Committee, and was appointed to the Employment Law Subcommittee of Michigan’s Standard Jury Instruction Committee. Professional memberships include the American Bar Association, Michigan Bar Association, Oakland Bar Association, and the Michigan Association for Justice.
